The importance of the Daily Construction Report (DCR) in mine management

25 de June de 2024

In general, all the reports associated with the operations of a mining enterprise are very important for its smooth running and success, as they provide objective information for decision-making and enable effective management of activities.

Given this, how wonderful would it be to have a resource that provides an overview of each day of the operation, giving access to information such as asset availability, utilization, productivity and other indicators? In this context, we have the Daily Construction Report (DCR) as an important ally for monitoring and controlling production and operational efficiency.

UNDERSTANDING THE DCR:

The DCR is a document that records the daily activities of mine operating equipment, i.e. the routine of trucks, loaders and excavators. With this report, it is possible to know the operational indicators of each piece of equipment, the amount of material extracted and its content, analyze the performance of a fleet in relation to a material, or even examine the performance of a group of operators in relation to a specific type of handling.

There are many possibilities for handling information with DCR. One of the most interesting points is that, by providing a general and detailed view of the operation, it allows both the mineral production area (mining) and the maintenance area to monitor the relevant indicators, measure their results and implement the appropriate improvements.

BENEFITS OF DCR FOR MINE OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT

HISTORY OF MAINTENANCE STOPPAGES:

DCR provides a detailed history of equipment or fleet maintenance stoppages, allowing analysis of the recurrence of failures. This makes it easier to identify frequent corrective maintenance or to show whether preventive maintenance is being carried out as planned.

ASSET AVAILABILITY OF EQUIPMENT (DF):

This indicator makes it possible to check whether maintenance is taking place assertively and quickly. Delayed or poorly performed maintenance can have a negative impact on this indicator, affecting operational efficiency.

MACHINE UTILIZATION OF EQUIPMENT (MU):

Analysis of this indicator allows us to identify the total number of hours that the asset is actually being used in production. If utilization is low, DCR helps to identify the hours of operational downtime for each downtime code monitored, facilitating the management of these unproductive hours and making it possible to reduce them.

MONITORING PROGRESS AGAINST THE MINING PLAN:

The DCR provides a detailed record of activities, allowing progress to be monitored in relation to the mining plan. Data such as the amount of ore extracted, equipment operating time and operational stoppages help to identify deviations between the mining plan and the operation, enabling the necessary adjustments to be made to improve adherence and compliance with the plan.

TECHNICAL DISCUSSIONS AND PLANNING MEETINGS:

The information obtained in the DCR can be discussed and aligned in D+1 or S+1 programming meetings, where strategies and plans are drawn up for the following day or week, based technically on the information in this report.

VISUALIZATIONS AND GRAPHICS:

From the data available in the DCR, it is possible to create graphs that show the mine operation from various perspectives. For example, a graph detailing the hours of use of a piece of equipment can reveal problems with corrective maintenance and suggest the need for a preventive maintenance routine.

PRACTICAL EXAMPLE: ANALYSIS OF HOURS OF USE:

In the Build Up graph, we see that 156.72 hours are allocated to maintenance and repair stops, with 136.20 hours corresponding to corrective maintenance. This information indicates that corrective maintenance may not be assertive and quick, or that corrective maintenance is prioritized over preventive maintenance. A suggested solution is to implement a preventive maintenance routine.

DCR is a valuable tool that enables effective management of mining operations, providing detailed information that can be used to improve efficiency and productivity.

DISCOVER HOW DCR CAN TRANSFORM YOUR OPERATION:

Seeing how essential the DCR is to the success of a mining enterprise, the Mining Control System, in its reports module, makes this operating log available. This Fast2Mine solution provides an intuitive and quick overview of the operation, making it easier to manage and control daily activities.
